Independent researcher and builder working on digital infrastructure.
Petro Hrys is a researcher and engineer working independently on digital infrastructure — the search systems, indexing behavior, AI architectures, and automation layers that determine how information is discovered, retrieved, and understood on the open web.
One question runs through the work: how machines decide what is worth surfacing. Search engines, language models, and the automated systems that increasingly mediate global information each answer it differently, and the design of those answers quietly shapes what people find, trust, and build upon. The attention here is on that layer — the architecture beneath the visible web — rather than the products assembled on top of it.
Born in Ukraine and based between Europe and the United States. The practice is deliberately small and self-directed: long-form writing, applied research, and a steady cadence of independent infrastructure work, kept clear of the incentives that usually distort how these systems get described.
A small set of independent tools is maintained at their own URLs and listed quietly in the footer. They are useful work in adjacent domains, not the center of it.
