Directories by Verification Requirements

Which verified directories require you to prove something before publishing, and what that implies for effort.

Introduction

Verification requirements are the clearest available proxy for how much effort a listing will take and how much a listing is worth. A directory that publishes anything anyone submits is cheap to appear in and correspondingly cheap as a signal. One that requires proof of identity, domain control or an established account is more work and means more.

This is one of the few effort-related fields this dataset can populate honestly, because it is usually stated on the directory's own pages. Approval time and review process are not, and remain null throughout.

Evidence base

Evidence base: 56 of 64 verified directories in the PetroHrys dataset require verification before listing. Every figure and table on this page is generated from those records at build time. Fields that were never established are shown as Unknown rather than filled in.

Recommendations

Treat a verification requirement as a positive signal about the directory rather than an obstacle. The directories that check are the ones whose listings a reader can trust.

Frequently asked questions

Does verification required mean identity documents?

Not necessarily. It means the directory requires some form of confirmation before a listing is published, which may be an account, domain control, or company details. This dataset does not record which, so it is not stated.
